For the first time ever, Swedish composer Allan Pettersson’s music will be performed in Musikverein in Vienna, a Mecca for lovers of classical music. Norrköping Symphony Orchestra performs in this sold out concert on Sunday, June 10.

“We stand out”

The peak of the concert is Allan Pettersson’s seventh symphony, the composer’s breakthrough work. The successful Pettersson project has been going on since 2013, with annual concerts and recordings, in collaboration between SON, conductor Christian Lindberg and the record company BIS. The recordings of the project has received much praise internationally, and now it’s time to bring it to an international stage.

“Vienna is a great music city where concerts and opera performances belong to everyday life in a way that we in the Nordic countries have difficulties imagining. But it is also a traditional and conservative environment. Therefore, it is appropriate that we, as a Swedish orchestra, stand out and present Allan Pettersson’s music for the Vienna audience, says SON’s Artistic Director Henrik Marmén.

“The perfect violinist”

The concert program consists of music by Weber, Beethoven and Pettersson. Soloist in Beethoven violin concert is Austrian violinist Benjamin Schmid, who is considered to be one of Europe’s foremost. With his fine qualities and remarkable repertoire, he has been described as “the perfect violinist”. Schmid plays on a Stradivarius violin: “ex Viotti 718”.

Conductor is Christian Lindberg, who is known as one of the world’s most skilled interpreters of Allan Pettersson’s music. He is also the driving force of The Allan Pettersson Project.
